I am Nigerian (Igbo). Yes, both of my parents are Nigerian, and I do visit whenever my schedule allows.
For undergrad I went to the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) with a major in Biology and minor in Chemistry. For graduate school, I went to Morehouse School of Medicine and got a Masters in Biomedical Research. Lastly, I graduated from Morehouse School of Medicine with my MD in 2018.
Morehouse College is separate from Morehouse School of Medicine. The graduate school is co-ed and actually has more female students than male, lol. Yes, even people from Atlanta, Georgia question me on this regularly.
Of course I do. Hopefully I will be able to delve into this at some point.
No. Yes.
I will always enjoy spending quality time with my family and doing ratchet things with my loved ones!! I also enjoy working out (it is cathartic), traveling with friends, having random conversations with strangers when I’m out and about, watching sports (except baseball or golf), etc. I know there are others that I am forgetting.
Now you know this can be a long answer, and I will make a post about it. Nevertheless, I will summarize it here.
I watched my grandparents pass away from illnesses that were not properly managed.
I wanted to prevent any other families from experiencing the pain that mine went through.
This is an amazing way to serve The Lord by serving his children with their most personal concerns.
There need to be more doctors that look like me (or any other disenfranchised group), and I wanted to be a part of that. Plus, this is necessary to ensure that minority groups are actually HEARD and treated appropriately.
I’m a big nerd!!!
Are you serious? It’s The University of Alabama. 17 national championships. Need I say more?
Internal Medicine fit best with my personality in that it requires deep thought, solving puzzles, broad disease states, and it allows me the opportunity to subspecialize. I also wanted a field that would allow me to care for my family as we get older.
Yes, I am a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated.
Overall, I am having a ball. I finally get to do what I want in terms of helping my patients. I know that I went into the right field, and I look at is as a blessing to help others. Is it easy? Hell no, but nothing worth having is easy, right?
